Summer Movie Spotlight: Brave

Although the season doesn’t officially start for another two weeks, it seems like summer is already in full swing at RoomMates HQ. We’re happily shedding our sweaters, grabbing lemonades with lunch, and dreaming of weekend getaways to the beach. But there’s one more big thing that we look forward to each and every summer: movies!

This year, I’m looking forward to three particular films: Brave, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Amazing Spider-Man. We’ve been working hard on new wall decal designs to accompany each of these releases, but we’ve had to keep them under wraps until recently. Now that summer has started, these new designs have been released and are ready to help you prepare for the next few months of movies! Over the next two weeks, I’ll be giving you a peek at each of these films, as well as the decals we’ve created to help you bring the big screen action home with you.

Disney-Pixar's Brave

We'll kick off our series with Brave. This upcoming collaboration from the famed Disney-Pixar studios (also known for Cars and Toy Story, among others) is set in the highlands of Scotland. The story follows Merida, daughter of the king and queen and a talented archer. Merida makes a wish that turns the entire kingdom to chaos… and causes her triplet brothers to be transformed into bears! She then must take action to undo the curse and discover the true meaning of what it means to be brave.

Merida is one of the most unique princesses I’ve seen in a Disney movie yet. She’s defiant, headstrong, and (of course) brave. I also love her hair! And although she’s a princess, there’s no sight of a romance here: Merida’s ill-fated wish is actually made because she wishes to avoid marriage. Though I'm admittedly a big fan of more “traditional” princess stories like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, I'm really looking forward to following Merida's tale.

I also really love the designs we created for this film. Since Merida is the heroine of the film, we definitely wanted to create a giant wall decal of her. However, we also wanted to make sure she had her faithful steed, Angus, to accompany her! And since a central part of the story involves Merida's mischievous little brothers being transformed into bears, we decided to also create a pack of Hamish, Hubert, and Harris in cuddly cub form. I think the bears are my favorite design, but I'm betting they look a lot cuter than they act in the film, just based on what I've seen in the trailer!

You can watch the trailer for Brave here. Once you're done watching, make sure you check out our selection of Brave wall decals! The movie hits theaters on Friday, June 22.

Are you planning to see Brave? What do you think of it so far? Let me know in the comments!
