My DIY Peel and Stick Tile Backsplash Installation

Creating a backsplash in one afternoon is possible (fun and exciting) with RoomMates StickTILES peel and stick backsplash tiles. After installing a tile backsplash, I would highly recommend StickTILES.

Plus, when pricing the real tiles to the peel and stick tiles, the price of StickTILES won hands down, and I could purchase four tiles in a pack with SticKTILES, rather than single tiles getting more bang for my buck! Keep reading to see my peel and stick backsplash installation!

A few things I really like about StickTILES... For starters, they are peel and stick tiles! What can be easier? Each peel and stick tile contains a removable paper backing. I literally peeled the backing off of each tile and stuck it to the wall. Each peel and stick tile also had a protective clear film (on the tile itself) to keep the tile clean during installation. After the tile was on the wall, I peeled the film off!  It’s so easy; my DIY abilities reached a new high!

Selecting which StickTILE design to use was easy! The Modern Long Stone paired perfect with the brown cabinetry and stainless steel appliances in the kitchen. Click here to learn more about the Long Stone Peel and Stick Backsplash Tile I used.

Once you have your pattern selected, follow these five very easy steps for installation:

  1. Clean
  2. Measure
  3. Cut
  4. Peel
  5. Align and Apply

Step 1: Clean – Use an all-purpose cleaner to wipe down your wall and ensure it is free of dust and grease. Make sure the wall dries completely before installing tiles!

Step 2: Measure – Use a ruler and a pencil to measure your wall and draw light pencil lines on the wall of where each tile will go. This helps create a blueprint and a rough idea of how each tile where line up.

Step 3 – 5: Cut, Peel, Align & Apply – When ready, peel off the backing 1/3 of the way on each tile, align and apply on the wall! Press firmly when applying. Follow these quick and easy steps to install each tile!

I also definitely recommend a cutting mat and box cutter to cut and customize your StickTILES to your space (for ex: around outlets). I was hesitant on purchasing the cutting mat rather than using something laying around the house but am glad I did. I couldn’t believe how much cutting I did to customize my tiles to the kitchen.

Cutting was very easy to do with each tile. StickTILES peel and stick backsplashes are made of a flexible epoxy material that make them easy to cut with a utility knife. A utility knife (or box cutter) I felt offered more control on where to make the cuts, but you can use scissors if you prefer.

Also, the kitchen had three different areas we were tiling and a handful of outlets, which I thought would be very challenging, but it was actually quite easy to install the peel and tiles around outlets. Just take your peel and stick tile and measure your area where the outlet is on the wall. Then transfer the measurements to your tile.

Before you begin, turn the power off whenever working near electrical outlets. When installing stick tiles around outlets, I did not cut out the entire outlet area on my tile; I only where the outlet screws were so I could easily rescrew the outlet cover back on the wall. Following this rule was key to a successful application and ensuring a perfect cut.
