Brighten an Entryway with Peel and Stick Wallpaper

Michele from Our Uncluttered House is a wizard when it comes to DIY home decor. In a recent project, she used peel and stick wallpaper to brighten an entryway in her fixer upper bungalow. Since her project was a phenomenal success, we asked her to write a guest blog post about the project.

My husband and I downsized to a bungalow in 2014 knowing it was very much a fixer upper. We became the ultimate DIYers, making this house our forever home, one room at a time.

When we were selected to participate in the challenge, we automatically knew we would choose to renovate and brighten an entryway. New floors, paint, board and batten and peel and stick wallpaper were going to totally transform the space.

The entryway has always been lacking but wasn’t a priority on the DIY list until this opportunity came along. With 10 foot ceilings in this area, I knew I wanted to lighten and lift the space with something other than paint.

We thought peel and stick wallpaper was the perfect tool to brighten an entryway!

Bohemian Peel And Stick Wallpaper

I came across this beautiful Bohemian Peel and Stick Wallpaper from RoomMates Decor and immediately fell in love with the colors and the pattern. Combined with the white board and batten, it was going to totally transform the space the way I had envisioned.

Our house is very open concept, and it can be difficult to establish subtle boundaries from one area to the next without disrupting the flow of the house.  However, with careful preparation, everything we’ve done in the space flows so nicely with the rustic industrial vibe we have throughout the rest of the our home.

We have installed a lot of wallpaper over the years, especially back in the 90’s when it was all the rage. And we also did an accent wall in this house in our master bedroom three years ago,  but it was not peel and stick and it was not easy. We went into this project with an open mind, a little experience under our belt, and the video on the RoomMates website to help us get started.

Lift And Brighten An Entryway With Peel And Stick Wallpaper

We loved that RoomMates' Peel and Stick Wallpaper can easily be cut with scissors, a huge plus. The pattern we chose was easy to match once we got going, and there wasn’t a tremendous amount of waste. It was very easy to hang on a straight wall. In fact even when I look back now and try to remember where we matched some pieces, I do not see the seem lines at all. It is also very easy to trim once it’s on the wall with a sharp utility knife.

Adding the finishing touches...

For us, adding some last-minute details was the final step to brighten an entryway. Our little bungalow has a few odd little nooks and crannies that I never know what to do with. One in particular stands out when you walk in our front door. At the last minute of this challenge, we decided to wallpaper inside and hang a pendant light. There is no wiring for a light fixture, but that didn’t stop us! We attached a motion-activated, battery-operated LED puck light to the top. It looks perfect in the evenings and highlights the wallpaper even more!

DIY With Peel And Stick Wallpaper

I also DIYed a bench, painting it and adding a slab of pine to the top.  With just enough wallpaper left to add some in the cubbies, it's a cute finishing touch that always seems to catch everyone’s eye.

Decorate And Brighten A Space With Peel And Stick Wallpaper

Do I love this wallpaper?  In case you hadn’t already figured that out the answer is yes!  The wallpaper, more than anything, achieves the lightness and brightness we hoped for when we set out on this renovation. It’s the first thing anyone sees when they walk through our front door now. The wallpaper is the showstopper in this entire renovation!
